Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
What is Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a form of therapy that helps people who have experienced trauma reprocess memories and make new connections, reducing the distress associated with the trauma.
Your therapist will use bilateral stimulation (BLS) to help the brain access and process traumatic memories and negative core beliefs. BLS might be: eye movements, tapping, listening to tones, or holding buzzers in each hand.
How does EMDR work?
Can any therapist do EMDR?
In order to ethically practice EMDR as a therapist, you must complete 20 hours of foundational EMDR training, 20 hours of supervised practice using EMDR, and 10 hours of consultation with a certified EMDR therapist.
