Frequently Asked Questions
What is Therapy?
Think of therapy as a personal relationship with professional boundaries. Therapy should feel like a safe, comfortable, and non-judgmental place to explore problems in your life that are making it difficult to engage in everyday activities and relationships with others..
How can therapy help?
Therapy can help you gain deeper insight and understanding into your own experiences and how they continue to show up in your life, making things more challenging. For people with a history of trauma specifically, therapy can help repair parts of the brain that have sustained long-term impacts from trauma. With the right therapist guiding you, you can learn to have more empathy and compassion for yourself and your experiences, which can ultimately lead to feeling lighter and an improved sense of self.
What evidence based tools do you use?
I primarily utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is considered the gold standard in trauma treatment. Additionally, I integrate holistic and relational approaches, including compassion-focused therapy, parts work, and somatic (mind-body) connection techniques. These tools are crucial for regulating emotions and building a crucial sense of safety during the healing process.
What can I expect from therapy?
In our initial 1-3 sessions, we'll focus on getting to know each other, understanding your story, and clarifying your goals. We’ll be building a strong foundation, as healing is a marathon, not a sprint.
As we build this therapeutic relationship, we can begin to do the deeper work of exploring past experiences, engaging in self-discovery, and developing new tools to help you on your journey. The frequency of sessions will depend on your needs and schedule, and we can adjust this as we go.
My role is to support you and provide a safe space for this work.
Will I have to talk about the details of my trauma?
No, not unless you want to. My approach is trauma-informed and centered on stabilization and safety first. We use tools like EMDR and parts work which often allow us to process difficult memories without requiring you to repeatedly recount every detail. We only proceed with deeper work when you feel completely ready and secure.
What is the Investment and Do You Accept Insurance?
My out-of-pocket rate is $150 for an intake session and $125 for a typical 55-minute session.
I do accept Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and will file your claims on your behalf. If you have other insurance and would like me to provide super bills or file with your insurance company as an out-of-network provider, I’m happy to do that.
Additionally, I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots. Please inquire if you’re interested.
